COLOR

  • Plum was everywhere—from dusty shades to lilac, often in tandem with mauve
  • Coral energized neutrals and paired with other brights
  • Spruce seemed comfortable, while emerald offered more edge and citrons hung on for pop
  • Indigo never disappointed, but a lot of middle range drab blues were prominent
  • Buttery yellow worked in spring palettes, creamy Dijon in sophisticated designs
  • Cinnamon made a statement, while copper gave it sparkle
  • Gold metallic still added glam to weaves, but silver offered a cooler viewpoint

PATTERNS

  • Birds were back to roost, from small song birds to playful flamingos to elegant cranes
  • Foliage fanned out from palms to philodendrons and a range of graphic leaves not always green
  • Flower power hung on, still bold and beautiful but not as moody, shifting from dark grounds
  • Still dark grounds were spectacular with fruit and other motifs more modern
  • Medium-scale face sketches and small scale people in painterly expressions provided a new figurative point of view
  • Circles intrigued with fractal play
  • Overlays brought disparate motifs together, like stripes, animal prints and flowers
  • …As well as complex layered designs
  • Plaids were upsized, with lines blurred

STYLE

  • Art Deco was solid, with signature motifs
  • While geometric took other cues from Bauhaus to Mondrian, midcentury to the ‘70s
  • African-inspired designs led with texture and graphics
  • A robust wave of Japanese motifs showed simplified, bold images in updated palettes
  • Hygge made itself at home, with naïve and folkloric themes and pastel palettes

TECH

  • Digital continued to dazzle with incredible complexity, depth and fidelity
  • Smart fibers are changing bedding, regulating temperature to hot or color and repelling dust mites
  • Acoustic textiles moved into amazing sheers that even go solar

TEXTURE

  • Sheers returned with amazing style and color, plus embellishments like embroidery, appliques, burnouts and coupé (cut) fringe-y tufts
  • Seersuckers added fresh crinkles
  • Flannel bedding got uber soft, with sophisticated patterns
  • Velvet strengthened its hold, dazzling in color, performance and patterns
  • Tweed was fresh with fashion colors
  • Poufy quilting wowed leather and plastics
  • Weaving and braiding lent dimensionality like chunky crocheted looks

Stay tuned for chenille, hints that suggest it’s poised for a spin.
